About acne scars
The marks left by acne tend to affect self-esteem well beyond the period when the lesions were active. During an inflammatory acne process, especially in more intense or manipulated cases, the skin may not produce collagen evenly during healing — this imbalance is what causes the different marks left on the skin's surface.
Not every acne scar is the same: there are icepick (narrow and deep), boxcar (well-defined edges, box-shaped), rolling (wavy appearance) and hypertrophic (raised) types — and the type directly influences the choice of treatment.
